History of MMA
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a combat sport with ancient roots, dating back to the Greek practice of Pankration in 648 BCE, which combined boxing and wrestling techniques. In the early 20th century, Brazil’s Vale Tudo matches, popularized by the Gracie family’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, further developed the concept of blending fighting styles. Modern MMA emerged with the creation of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 1993, designed to determine the most effective martial art. As the sport gained global popularity, regulations like the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts were established to ensure safety and fairness. Today, MMA is a mainstream sport, celebrated for its dynamic blend of disciplines and its cultural impact.
